Orofino Chamber of Commerce is honored to announce Jim and Jerri Bird as our
2018 Grand Clauses for the Annual Old Fashioned Light Parade – Twas The Night Before Christmas!
Jim and Gerri Bird have made their home in Orofino for the last 65 years. They have five children who all reside near them in Konkolville. They also have nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Gerri Bird, formerly Gerri Konkol, moved here with her family when she was little so that her dad, Andrew Konkol Sr. could start the Konkolville Lumber Company. The first mill was a modest beginning, producing one million board feet of lumber in one year and employing 18 men. A larger mill was built in Konkolville in 1948. This one boasted the first fully automated electric log carriage in Idaho.
Jim and Gerri managed the Konkolville Motel for 10 years before settling into retirement. Jim was also employed by the Konkolville Lumber Co. for 30 years. Jim and Gerri love living in Orofino and especially appreciate the friendly people and the safe environment for raising a family. With the majority of their large family still close by, you will find several of their children or grandchildren visiting their home in Konkolville on any given day. They spend as much time with their family as possible and love having everyone so close. They love being close to the mountains and over the years have enjoyed many outdoor activities including snowmobiling, 4 wheeling, camping, boating and hunting. Jim has had the same hunting partner, Larry Davis, also of Orofino, for 50 years.
“We are honored to have been chosen as the Grand Clauses for the Old Fashioned Light Parade this year,” says Gerri. “The parade is a great way to kick-off the holiday season and we know it will be just beautiful!”
