Orofino’s Clearwater River is world renowned for its fly, Steelhead, and Chinook Salmon fishing. Our local guide shops report that the average steelhead taken from the Clearwater River is 12 to 14 pounds (though catching a 20 plus pounder is not rare!), and the average Spring Chinook Salmon taken from the Clearwater River is 20 pounds with 30+ pounders retrievable. Dworshak Reservoir boasts some of the best kokanee, bass and trout fishing in the Northwest. Combine your fishing trip with an overnight stay at one of the lake’s mini-camps located on the banks of the 54-mile long reservoir… and you might just have found paradise!
Idaho has the best variety of fishing in the lower 48 states, Orofino is no exception! The area surrounding Orofino is rich with bear, cougar, elk, deer, birds of prey and waterfowl. Bugling season is in early fall which is prime time for elk hunting. Orofino has some of the best elk in the country and hunting is said to be “exceptional”.
