As we approach the 200th Anniversary of Lewis and Clark's historic expedition the US Postal Service will issue stamps featuring detailed individual portraits of Lewis and Clark. Another stamp depicts the courageous frontiersman and explorers surveying the countryside.
The City of Orofino has been selected as the Idaho Community to host the unveiling of the Lewis and Clark Bicentennial stamps. The celebration will be at Pink House Hole along the Clearwater River, May, 14, 2004. Day long events are scheduled with the formal ceremony beginning at 11:00am. The area is just west of the site where Lewis, Clark and their men, with the help of the Nez Perce Indians, built canoes that eventually took them to the Pacific Ocean.
Stamps will be available from the US Postal Service for 30 days following the unveiling. Commemorative items and food will also be on sale. For information call the Chamber of Commerce at 1-208-476-4335 or contact the Chamber by Email.
